Ellie LewisI am currently living a double life in Manchester; by day I'm studying for a Master's Degree in chemistry whilst also juggling a full-time training program at Agecroft Rowing Club. I am a member of the high-performance GB START group, which helps rowers like me to join Team GB.I thought I would introduce myself to you, my name is Ellie Lewis, I'm 21 years old and a lightweight rower. I have been rowing since the age of 14 and have raced for Great Britain in five World Championship events, winning a World U23 Bronze medal and a World University Silver medal.

I love smiling, doodling and all things food, namely bananas, peanut butter and digestive biscuits. If you want to start a conversation, anything edible will spark my interest.

Becoming a KYMIRA Athlete

I am very excited to be an official KYMIRA Athlete. My elder sister Jess got there first with the KYMIRA stash and if I'm honest, I got serious kit-envy too! As a budding scientist, I can't deny that this technology is pretty amazing and every athlete needs this kind of science in their lives!

We train so hard, up to 3 times a day, in order to perform at our very best and against the toughest field. Knowing that there is technology out there to harness this work and energy expenditure (plus the bonus of fab looking kit) is really very exciting. I certainly cannot wait to give mine its biggest test at next week's (10th April 2016) Great Britain squad trials!!

Trails for Rio 2016

Ellie rowingMy housemates could not wipe the smile off my face, when my invitation buzzed into my email inbox. Very few people get given such an incredible opportunity to race with the fastest athletes in the world (literally World and Olympic champions). Nonetheless, I still felt the pressure of proving that I was worthy of the invite. I had a really good run up, to the trial and I worked closely with my coach making some positive improvements in the week commencing. Two weeks ago I was incredibly fortunate enough to earn an invitation to race at the Great Britain Rowing Team Olympic Trials for Rio selection. The invites were based on previous results and rankings at the GBRT trials this season so far and as a young athlete in the sport this was beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

When racing began it was comparable to racing at the World Championships purely because of the class and professionalism of the athletes around me. We raced a time-trial, semi-final and final over a 2km course over two days.

I finished ranked 8th overall and 1st Under-23 lightweight woman – I was over the moon! On top of this, it was an incredible learning experience for me and I highly valued the chance to get out and race side-by-side this early on in the season.

No resting

Straight away it was back to the grind for me – no day off – I returned back to Manchester the next day to crack on with further training in preparation for the GBRT World Championship & U23 team selection trials which are 10th-12th April. This trial is the biggest test of the season for me and it will determine my selection in a boat for the World Rowing U23 Championships this summer.

I'll proudly be modelling my brand new KYMIRA Core 2.0 leggings, top and thermo-reactive socks for that extra performance and recovery edge across the two days of intense racing in our singles! This will then be followed by a tough crew selection testing process at the end of the week, and then a big fat Domino's pizza when it's all over!!

I also thought I would attach a little snippet of footage from my training life in Manchester over the past 2 weeks or so. Enjoy!
